This game is a great solid title. It feels just like the movies and oozes with Ghostbuster Style. At $20 you can't go wrong with purchasing this game. If you were a Ghostbuster fan as a kid then this game with bring you back to memory lane while at the same time delivering a great game.
The first thing I noticed when booting up the game was the music. The music score is right out of the movies. The music is great with the comedy scenes and the intense action. The graphics are great as well. The set pieces are great especially the Stay Puff Marshmellow battle. The Photon beam you use to capture ghosts look great and the screen bursts with debris when destroying libraries, museums, cemeteries, and the other great levels. The humor made me laugh out loud as well. The voices of the characters are straight from the actors of the movies, so again this is 100% authentic Ghostbusters.
The game play is a little repetitive but then again its Ghostbusters. You go into each level looking to capture or destroy ghost entirely. Throw in the occasional puzzle elements and its robust enough that it doesnt get stale. You attain 3 different guns that are used to capture ghosts so the variety is there. Each gun is different and have a primary and secondary fire. Theres also some good exploration even though the story is linear to the core. There are scattered artifacts around the levels and collecting them all earns a trophy. Also, you have a PKE Meter which is used to find lost artifacts and scan ghosts for you to log and discover weaknesses. I was using the PKE meter frequently which doesnt get boring because sometimes when going towards a hot spot on the PKE meter it can lead to some great scare moments. You can upgrade each weapon to its full potential by purchasing upgrades such as less cool down time ( cause your guns can overheat) or to being more powerful. When blasting your way through levels you accumulate money from all the damage you unleash which are then spent on upgrading your guns. The story is great even though its sometimes hard to understand with all the techno babble Egon spits out. Then, again thats the funny part because its Ghostbusters and the game doesnt take itself seriously.
Online mode is my opinion is alright. Its co-op online in different game modes. I mean when your doing the single player story your usually with your whole team most of the time. So, when you go online its you and 3 other people which again makes it feel like your playing with AI most of the time. Online doesnt add to the experience its there to have you relive the single player experience of hunting and trapping ghosts which is what Ghostbusters is all about, except you can do it with friends.
Over all Great game. A must buy, especially at $20. You'll get your moneys worth and if you dig the multiplayer then you get something extra as well. 5 stars because I enjoyed it all the way through with its great story, solid game play and i always came back for more. 4 stars overall because the multiplayer was not great but ok and is not needed to enjoy the overall package.Get more detail about Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
